Disaster

Well, we have a disaster on our hands.
Jasons tank crashed, everything except a few corals that he brought to my tank is a goner. How did this happen? Febreeze. So anyways, Im just checking to see if anyone has any large tanks sitting around that they would like to sell. Jason thinks he might just want to get something larger so that a small amount of chemicals might not kill everything. Lemmie know.

Damn, That sux! Been there!

I have the old 120 for sale now. Basically I've decided that my redo is gonna be a custom acrylic cube (about 90 gal.). I'll even throw in everything (overflow, some plumbing stuff, big heater, fuge/sump, etc.) except the skimmer and mag 12. For say.... $350. The tank isn't perfect but you've all seen it and it's ok sans a scratch or 2. I can't let the lighting go cuz I'm using it and I already sold the old canopy to a friend in Pitts.

Lastnight I took down the 50 gal. freshwater hex and transferred the critters to the 15 hex. The wifey wants to convert it to salt (Woo Hoo) and I'm gonna transfer my fish, inverts, some select LR, and a few softies to it.

I'm working on a possible major freebie of 7/16" cell cast lexan right now too. A customer got a large shipment and 5 sheets of .4375 x 48 x 96 were sent in err that they can't use... Darn their luck! anyway, I may be able to skank it for nada! My inside person is looking into the red-tape now. If I do get REAL lucky my new tank, sump, and fuge is handled and I'll have atleast a full sheet left over.

Everyone think positive...

Dale is your old tank glass or acrylic? I dunno how big he wants to go, or if I want him to have a bigger tank than me ;). Ill check with him and see what he wants to do.

glass... it's a perfecto 24 x 24 x 48. Just thought I'd offer it all. Ofscourse you'd have to put a new floor in the old stand if he wants it. A little sanding and a couple coats of poly and it would look nice.

You working tonite Mike. Deb and I will be in Boardumb before 5 to pick up stuff she won on the radio and may stop in if you're gonna be there.

Just for Jason.. it's not really for sale per-say.... Considering the time and effort and original price it's a steal but I'm not planning on keeping anything but my skimmer and mag 12 for the new setup. Crazy huh?

I think he might be interested Dale, I told him to think about it. After you set this other tank up will you still have any rock left for sale? Were trying to find out if the rock he has will even be viable after the tank was nuked by febreeze.

I'm sure his rock will be fine given time. A good water change and even though alot will die the rock could make a comeback. I have some rock I'd sell but want to keep most of the coral laden stuff. I have 3 larege pieces that were my original base slabs and several medium pieces. I'll make him a deal on a "kit" if he wants, just let me know.

Well Dale, I believe he wants the tank. Lemmie get with him to figure out exactly what hes gonna need and we'll get back to you to work out the details.

In addition to the stuff I have for him he'll need a canopy (or 48" fixture), some basic fittings and a mag 9.5 or equiv.

Basically:

Tank- Perfecto 120 @ 24 x 24 x 48
Base made from a modified pine stand, skinned and trimmed in oak
CRP 800 GPH overflow w/ plumbung to sump
Sump w/ Fuge that custom fits the base

I do have the PM beckett skimmer and mag 12 that I now plan on replacing with a smaller Euro or ASM for the new tank setup if he is interested on them. The sump was designed and built then modified to fit them specifically. Ofcourse the skimmer was $375 new and the mag 12 was $100 both have 2 years of use but well maintained.

I guess I'm gonna restart from the ground up with acrylic and do it all ultra quality, hi-tech, and even with furniture grade stand and canopy.

I'll make him a killer deal on everything and provide some big pieces of LR to get his base setup. Can also give him some good 3+ yr old live sand that will help keep cycling to a mimimum.

Well I dunno what he wants to do for the skimmer and return pump, I do have a question though. When you lose power, does your overflow restart its siphon when the power comes back on? We were considering drilling.

Yup, I panicked the forst itm ethe power went out during a storm but the overflow started right back up. Alot of CPR users but the pump (Ryan has one) that CPR recomends bu I just ran a piece of tubing from the nipple in the overflow to the inlet on a powerhead and all was well for 3 years. I also planned for an overflow potential but matching the sump/fuge volume an empty headspace in the tank. If the return pump quit the sump would hold the extra volume unti the siphon broke on the overflow and the pumop would run dry and cavitate if for some reason the overflow stopped before the tank overfilled. Justification for calculation... :)

Drilling is fine too, I just didn't want to chance it when I set it up initailly. Ya, I got in a hurry and took shortcust I regretted. I don't regret using the CPR overflow tho and plan to use their smallest unit on the 50 gal. hex as soon as I get to that point.

Dale, sorry to spring this up on you, but are you available this sunday? Jason just called and says he wants the tank, and the sooner the better. Ill be off all day sunday so anytime works for me.

Yup, I plan to be home... Whenever is fine by me. I just finished transferring LR, fish and corals to the big hex lastnight so all the LR and corals in the rubbermaid can go too if he is interested. Buzz my cell and let me know when you guys plan to stop by. 330-719-3530
