I'm sure this will get lost on the threads...but I wanted to post it for anyone searching this species in the future.

My main thrill is that mine is finally eating well. It took three days of enticing with mysid shrimp and finally on the forth the fish started to go for it. Now he's readily eating that and cautiously eating flake.

Interestingly, he only goes for the smaller pieces, and not the larger ones. This may be a key point, and for all I know its well known...but my little fish likes tp eat more smaller foods tham fewer larger foods.

Hope this may help people in the future using the search button.

I have found the hikari mysis works better for those that choose the smaller bits. I have an achillies that at first preferred only the small bits and he really did a lot better on hikari. If you haven't tried it give it a whirl.

Good luck.

I actually was putting a lot of bbs in there and it wouldn't touch it...it just wasn't eating anything. I finally got him to take to mysis shrimp only after one time of NOT turning off the pumps. Usually I put stuff on feed mode or just turn the pumps off so the food doesn't just blow by him...but one day while in a hurry I just dumped some food in for the other fish. Interestingly since the mists shrimp were moving so fast he started snatching them up. Now he's taken to flakes, and started eating the bbs, and he's currently the only fish that actually eats the pellet food that I have. So I'm happy to report that he's a happy eater now.
