Was just wondering the best way to butcher this guy. I found one source that said to cut a piece of the foot and allow it to attach to some rubble rock. The more detail the better, Thanks!

I don't think it matters much. I was moving mine the other day... I didn't know it had anchored onto an adjacent rock. Anyways, a huge chunk, like 1/3 of the mushroom ripped off and digestive filaments went everywhere from both sides. After a few expletives, I moved the larger chunk to the intended spot, figuring both would die for sure. Not even a week later, both are all healed and you can't even tell they were "cut."
