hey all,

I just booked my reservations for a trip to the keys next weekend and want to take my girlfriend snorkeling as shes never been. Of course I want to show her the ropes this weekend before we head on out, but she needs some gear. I know in Key Largo there are a few of discount shops all along the road, but i wont be driving through until its too late to show her a few things. Is there any discount scuba places near orlando?

TIA

Luis

Out on International drive there are a couple shops with great prices. If you just want to get some snorkleing stuff you can always get the US divers stuff they sell at walmart. It really isnt that bad for a mask and snorkel.

Luis,

you should check the whole sets that Wally World have, like Dave said is a great brand (US Divers) I used to dive when lived in PR and that brand was my fav most of the time.BTW I could believe that Wally was carrying this brand.

Thank you Luis...someone else who feels Walmart has done more harm than good. I feel you, man. Their slash and burn techniques in regards to business ethics and standards has completely turned me off from them.

What other store can you walk into at 4 am and see mindless zombies roaming the ailes for a new bedsheet, a pair of shoes, a roll of paper towels, a two-litre of coke, a shotgun, and a toothbrush? I think their parking lot is always at capacity...regardless of the time of day.

Seems like you visit late at night to see all this........~grin~ JK
Anyways, yep, Walmart is your cheapest route, and some decent stuff too...........

Luis,

If you do not want to go to walmart www.diversdirect.com is your best bet. They are one of the big stores that you mention.

There is one in international drive, west palm beach, Ft. Lauderdale, florida city, key largo and key west. Potentially you could hit them all on your way down.

Although if you ask the smaller mom n' pop scuba shops, they are the walmart of scuba.

The other store that you mention I think may be divers supply, they are in Florida City www.divers-supply.com They are also a kind of dicount volume seller.

The US divers brand that has been mentioned is a budget brand but a good one. I have been certified since 1999 and my original mask that I used till about 2005 and still have as a back up is a US divers.

I believe they sell it at Target as well. Maybe Bass pro as well. K mart use to have it but I have not been to one in too many years.

lol!

thanks for the suggestions. I forgot to post back and say I ended up going to diverdirect on I Drive. Average prices so I couldnt complain. I walked away with some new gear to replace my 10 year old us divers stuff. my blades are just not that comfortable anymore, my mask is starting to leak (finally after 10 years) and my snorkel pruge is starting to deteriorate. Cant wait till i try the stuff out this weekend at blue springs.

thanks again!

Luis

Blue springs? Watch out for gators! Divers Direct has decent pricing. I think they are a little better at their West Palm location.
