i recently purchased reef plus for the idea of dosing some amino acids, i just read in a search that the trace elements it contains can cause overdose issues and that a coral food would be better....................has anyone found this to be the case , and what is a good coral food?

I dose this too and am really unsure it it helps or not. I dose about 2 small pipets once a week. I do water changes on my tank every other week so I dose this inbetween. However , I come to find if you have a decent bio load, fish poo is all that is really needed. I have feed oyser eggs and blended cylopeze as well but I really read that if you keep your PH,ALK, and Calcium in check poo is all they need.

Just from what I have read here. I read this specific forum every day and most agree. Here is a side shot of my reef tank. ITs only a 46 gallon bowfront, but since I have gotten the SPS itch, I need a bigger one...LOL.

Good luck and happy reefin'.

well, i dose cyclopeeze when i feed fish , dennis at dt's , i think thats his name, told me cyclopeeze is too big for sps, not sure if hes trying to push oyster eggs or not................. i also give 6 pumps of liquid life coral plankton , which is dead rotifers, every 3 days to my 120..................i see coral food mentioned alot, was wondering what exactly they are referring to.....................plus im a bit more concerned on this trace element overdose , i read some say they lost corals and had fish get ill, yet others say they use it with no problems.....................i would think perhaps it was used incorrectly, but i dont know since ive never tried it

Cylopeze is to large for sps thats why I add saltwater to the blender, then add a huge hunk or cypoz to the mix, then blend the living crap out of it. I then freeze it and break off a hunk and add it to the tank. By the time you are done blending it, its mostly liquid. This is how I add the cyclopeze to my sps tank.

You can try that as well. I also add oyster eggs to this as well for a nice balanced mix.

:)
