Disgusting algae ruining my tank please help if you have had this

From what I understand Zeostart is just Vinegar and nitrates. How much are you dosing? Looks like way to much.

Interesting, how do you know it has nitrates in it?

I saw it somewhere on one of the forums. It smells like vinegar and on the forum the poster did a nitrates test on it. From personal experience who knows what's in there haha

I cleaned this off four days ago this is what grew back since then
The chemiclean seemed to knock some of it back but alot is still there
I may have made a mistake by adding zeozyme with the red slime remover together.

Do you rinse your frozen food? There is a ton of phosphate in it.
Do you run any filter socks? If so do you change them every 3 daysish?

When you say cleaned off do you mean complete removal from system or just rub off and let stay in the water. Algae removal is a form of nutrient export...just not a good one lol. GFO would help.


Husbandry practices do not mean test everyday. Testing everyday is useless spare a few things. I'm talking about suctioning off the bottom, blowing rocks off, cleaning detritus from the sump. Changing filter socks every 3 days. Suctioning algae off into a filter sock and then removing the sock to remove the algae.

my 130 was like yours a few weeks ago. I beat it by scrubbing the rocks inside the tank with a toothbrush, filter it out with filter socks. Right after that i did a 3 day lights out, in conjunction with running 1 full reactor of GFO and another reactor with carbon. After 3 days i shortened the light period to a few hrs a day, then ramp it up over 3 weeks. So far i haven't seen any new algae growing

Then one can assume they have soaked up a ton of nutrients.......I personally would even bother throwing time or money at it and just start over. Kill the rock, maybe give it a HCL bath for good measure.
