How many Dispar Anthias can I keep in a 120 gallon? Would you say 12 is to many? 1 male and rest females? No other fish would be in this tank. Thanks for any info.
Without any other fish in the tank, I do not think that it would be a problem. I have a 190 - started with 10 dispars 2 years ago and presently down to 8, but I have several other fish in the tank.
I also have 2 males in the group. 1 was evidently changing when I bought them, I thought that I was puchasing 1 male and the rest females. Anyway I have only once seen anything at all that resembled any kind of an interchange between the 2 males, and I would not call it aggresive. Dispars are relatively mild mannered compared to many other Anthias.
I might also mention that the LFS where I purchased mine has had more than one type (or coloration) of Dispars possibly from different locations or possibly other types of Anthias being called Dispars. Mine look like the picture in the article below: http://reefkeeping.com/issues/2006-12/hcs3/index.php
In the right light mine really pop. I have LEDs - 50% RB, 25% CW, 10% Blue, 10% purple, 2% WW, 2% Red, and 2% Cyan. In 10K or brighter they basically look like a group of goldfish. The other "Dispars" that the LFS brings in are not as nice looking and in my opinion do look like goldfish.
