Display Refugiums...Anyone Have One?

Building a new tank and thinking of having a display refugium tied into the system. 50 Gallon breeder tank that will empty into my 30L sump.

Has anyone done something like this?

Also, what type of lighting does everyone use over their macro tanks?

i don't have one...yet. However, I do have display macro in my sump, and it grows just as well under the 6500k fluorescent bulb as it does under the LEDs in my main tank. T5s would be fine too.

I ended up turning my 30gal tank that was a fowlr into a refugium. Its next to my main display so its out on display for everyone to see. I have cheato in there growing under LEDs nicely. I'd like to get other types of algae for fun but that's down the road.

I had 37g DT with macros and a few corals that I kept seahorses in. It flowed into my reef and then into a sump/refugium/skimmer. Depending on growth I would somtimes switch out the display macros for a few in teh refugium which recieved 24 hour lighting. I used a normal CF for lighting on the fuge. The DT had a 2-65 w CF (just left over equipment). It did great for years before we lost power for a week but the DT refugium came back wo a problem. The seahorses not so much.

I did have one. My issue was a limited amount of space under my 72 gallon bowfront. So, I put a manifold that supplied flow to a large biocube that stood next to my tank. I drilled the biocube and it drained back into my sump. It worked great once I got the flow dialed in. I no longer have this because I needed the space in the room and took it down.

This was the setup I had -

I am planning a build for a tidal tank. This tank could also be considered a display fuge. It will be part of a larger 550g DT system. I hope to mimic some yet to be named region. I like the idea of seahorses but not sure about the efforts required. I'm thinking of seagrass, snails, clams, a few shrimp, maybe a fish or 2, and mangroves. Fro size Im thinking 55-75. I would also like the tank to simulate hide/low tides and current/swells.
