Dive Computer Help

Hey All,

I have the SUUNTO MOSQUITO Dive Computer and I am having a little trouble trying to figure out if it will show me my multi-level dives.

For Example.... Dive 1 deepest 101ft, average dive depth 60ft. Total Dive time 35 mins.

According to the computer so far, it has me at 101 ft for 35 mins,... which is not completely accurate as I know I was only at that depth for around 10 mins and was then at 70 ft or so for the most of the remaining time.

I thought the computers were supposed to be able to tell you all this... but all I am seeing are regular Planning table read outs.

Is there anyone who is familiar with this model who can help me access the multi-level dive stats?!?!?!

Have you tried transferring the data to your PC? (TR-PC mode) My husband had the D9 (before it was stolen) and I have the Mosquito. When my husband tranferred the info to the PC (from his watch) it gave all that info, actually charts it out very cool. We haven't transferred the data from mine yet, but it is capable of doing this as well. In the manual it states that it gives a depth profile as well as a ton of other useful info. HTH

I have the stinger. Same computer really. Go into memory then log and then into PRO mode. It will take you through the entire dive at 1 minute intervals and show you the depth and time updated ever minute from beginning of dive until end.

Remember that tables and the dive computers that implicitly use them are AVERAGES. That means, do not push decompression times, and if you do decompression diving use greater decompression times than required by your computer.

If you do decompression diving do not use computers. Decompression diving requires training, significant dive planning and an understanding of physiology. On my technical dives my computer just comes along to record my profile for later graphing, and as a redundant depth gauge.

On every technical dive my colleagues and I each carry four carefully planned profiles on a flip chart that we keep on our wrists: The primary dive plan, the 5-min longer dive plan, the 10-min bail-out plan, and the back-gas-only/lost-deco-gas plan. Additionally, we carry a set of decompression tables.

Planning a decompression dive often takes longer than the dive itself, particularly when you have several gas switches (Trimix->EAN-36->EAN-50->100% O2). By knowing our SAC rate (Surface Air Consumption rate) we know exactly what volume of gas we will consume at depth. Using various simulation software tools (I use GUI's DecoPlanner) we run through various scenarios. Sometimes you might find that staying 5 minutes longer on the bottom will cost you an extra 20 minutes of decompression (and a lot more gas volume). An untrained diver might run out of gas before they have completed their decompression and may have to come up to the surface bent. You must also plan for enough gas that if your buddy has a catastrophic gas loss, you can both make it back on the other's gas supply. Therefore, you must go through training before you attempt any decompression diving.

While planning a decompression dive with a computer is a bad idea, it is also a very valuable instrument for a regular dive that might go into a decompression stop.

Agreed. For recreational divers, the deco instructions of a dive computer should be there to help you get out of a situation that you shouldn't be in.
