Diving back in

So I sold my 210 a few years ago and have missed the hobby since. I am going to be picking up a 200dd with stand and canopy on sat. Couple questions as I know allot can change in a couple years. I have read the horror story about the heaters and would like to know what brand is recommended now? Also does any one have a sump or live rock for sale?

This is South Florida heater not needed .....as for the lg sump acrylic 200gal + depending if you mod it I can post the specs if interested...$300 firm

Titanium heaters are preferred. And yes I run a heater certain times of the year. When its cool outside, we like to give our ac unit a break. Even if its only a week or two a year.

Agreed with Marvin, titanium is the way to go. Make sure you have a standalone controller and then a tank controller for redundancy.

Not sure Marvin understands ac units here in sf no need to give it a break if its set to 76 and the temp is below 76 the unit isn't coming on in the first place so no need to supposedly give it a break its already off....I do know what Marvin is saying if your opening the windows and letting your house get down in the 60s well then that would be a problem but who lets the house get that temp especially with small children or infants ....heck the heater on the ac unit would be being turned on if those were the temps in the house lol .....the tank is going to stay relative to the inside temp so I suppose if you don't have a heater on your house or forgot to pay your power bill you might need one but highly likely it will never even turn on .....

Just measured it I stand corrected around 180 gal....98x20x21.....you could mod it smaller or larger depending on equipment or size restraints

If y ou have a 600 gal+ system then maybe running a heater is optional. However, my heater turns on all the time at night. I keep my house at 74-75 and i dont let my tank get that cold so yes, the heater turns on somewhere around 3-4 in the morning.

Titanium heater connected to your controller (apex, RK) would be best. Otherwise buy a ranco controller or something. I never trust the internal controller on the heater themselves.

Carlos- Welcome back!!!! We missed you. :bounce1:

So you come back after a few years, and are getting a 200 g tank, in South Florida, and your question is about a heater? :worried::uhoh2::wave:

No heater here. It takes quite a few days of SF weather IMHO to bring tank to unbearable temps ( no open windows though). I also keep my house AC on 71, 24/7. Tank hovers between 75-78.

Ok I'll skip that for now and monitor temps during the cycle. What do you think about tunze skimmers?

Carlos- Marvin knows more about Tunze skimmers than I do, but i think the 9011 is rated for 264gal. Having seen your previous tanks, I know you like lots of big fish, and corals. Not sure it can handle, IMHO.

Othe choices are available.

I just cleaned my heater from storage and turned it on last night because tank hit 74s

FYI.... In FL you can way under power the heater as it doesnt turn on much. Safer IMO

I run finnex digital readout 300w on about 300 gallons. No titanium and no problems yet.

Hooking to controller is preferred for auto shut down, just in case.

I only leave in tank for about 2 months out of the year
