You do have to connect the cord to the float switch, but all in all it's pretty easy and inexpensive.
I figure with all the DIY, the plug, float switch, wire....you'll probably end up spending $15-20 or so. Chip in another $15-20 and you've got one unit that contains everything, and also contains the lower voltage from the ATO to the switch.
Try this link. I made mine just like this one except I used two float switches wired together (in series) in case one fails to close. therefore if either float switch sticks the other one will break the circut and stop the flow from the aqualifter pump. Works off a 12v adapter.
