DIY Deltec update (pic)

I will be using 6" extruded acrylic and the reaction tube will be ~ 19-20" tall. I will also be using a GenX 1500 to start with. Do believe this would be too small of a pump for this skimmer or should I make a shorer/taller reaction tube to fit this pump. Also are one I drill the holes for a uniseal will the 2400 or larger fit the same space.

By the way your skimmer looks outstanding you have done a great job.

Also how did you make the venturi valve. Is it as easy as drilling a piece of PVC and then inserting a smaller piece of PVC to draw in the air.

Anyway great job and thanks for all of your help.

I would recommend that you send the 1500 back and get the 2400- Otherwise you'd need to make the skimmer pretty short. Second, It's pretty tough to drill a 1.25" hole in the wall of a 1/8" thick extruded tube. Maybe it's just my luck but I've shattered several tubes trying to do that. Are you mounting this to your ASM? The venturi was a piece of 1/8" acrylic lazer cut to look like disc with a hole in it- it was glued to the end of the connecting 1/2" pVC piece and then inserted into the coupling that connects to the pump. I then drilled and tapped it just ahead of the disc and screwed in a barbed adapter....

No, I am actually building my own skimmer it is not an ASM. So you think the extruded will shatter if I try and drill it? If I can find 1/4" extruded do you think that will work ok or not? Also I am not getting a clear picture of your venturi valve, did you put a disc with a hole drilled in it inside a piece of pipe and then tape the tipe just ahead of the disc?

Thanks

kentrob11,

That skimmer looks awsome. Did you CNC that twist lock flange yourself? Is there anywhere you can buy that flange?

Shadofax- Here's a diagram of the venturi-

JHammond- I outsourced the twist lock flange...I can get you one but they aren't cheap....PM me if interested....

Thanks, your drawing explained to me why mine didnt work. I put the barb before the disc and that is probably why it is not sucking in air. I will flip it around and see how it works. Does 1/2 PVC work better than 3/4" for that pump do to the pressure issues needed to power the venturi?
