i have a question about the standpipe and connection . after reading about the duruso it says to increase to inch and a quarter for a 1" bulkhead. on the other side of the glass do you need to increase there also or stay at 1" . i have a slip on the indide a threaded on the outside. i cant seem to find a connector that fits the outside threads . a 1" adapter screws in . i guess i need to know if i really need to do all this increaseing. i will be using a mag 9.5 split off to feed a skimmer it will have about 5-6 feet to the return .total volume is 60 gallon . thanks

I would increase the size. The threads on the outside are for the bulkhead nut.

You should be able to find an adapter that goes from 1 " to 1 1/4 "

I'm pretty sure that you want to keep the outside part of the bulkhead at 1 inch piping.

Going on memory here, although Durso seems unclear on the reason why this worked better than using two 1 inch pipes, I think the idea is that when you have a 1 1/4 inch pipe feeding into a 1 inch pipe, you ensure that a slug of water will always be present in the 1 1/4 inch pipe above the bulkhead (because a 1 1/4 inch pipe can flow much more water than a 1 inch pipe). This slug of water is (maybe?) what seals out any noises from the 1 inch pipe from emanating into the room.

I thin if you reread Durso's website you'll see that's how he does it.
