DIY fish guard for BA overflow

I have been debating on how to handle preventing livestock from taking a ride down the drain to my sump. I have toyed with the idea of a glass cover. And tried making cages for each drain like this.

I ended up with this...

I a pretty happy with it. I used zip ties plastic gutter guard and some scraps of egg crate to give some rigidity. I figured this was the best solution as a whole.

Any front view shot of the overflow? Im debating if i want to add a whole piece of eggcrate, or somehow just cover the top inch of open space.

Sorry my iPad takes crappy pics. I just couldn't find a method that I liked to cover it. I covered it with eggcrate on my other tank but it just grew algae and was a PIA to remove.

My BA drains are about 11" wide in total so I went around all three.

Yes if my overflow was smaller that might have worked but I had a center brace to contend with.

the egg crate can be cut into two or three pieces and zip tied back together
