DIY Food Mix

Just seeing if anyone would be interested in making some? Will probably be on Thursday or Friday in Canton.

The more people, the cheaper it gets. Basically we just take the cost of all the ingredients and divide it up among the amount of people we have.

Let me know. I'm probably going to start purchasing ingredients tomorrow.

No, I still have a half of a bag left of the old batch... and that's with giving some away.

I had some guys ask me about making some, and figured I could always use some extra.

Update... adding up the cost of all the ingredients... for the qt we would probably need. It looks like if we had 8-10 people the cost per bag would be $10-$12. The bag size would be a Ziploc sandwhich sized bag.

That's just a ballpark guess though, and the cost p/bag could fluctuate once we get the total cost, and amount of food it makes.

I'm guessing it's going to take about $200 to get all the ingredients. The Brine Shrimp Direct order alone will probably be around $70... for the Golden Pearls (6 sizes), spirulina powder, and freeze dried rotifers.

To put the price p/bag into perspective 1 - 6oz package of Rod's food costs $20.00

Anyway... let me know who is SERIOUSLY interested... As long as we get 6 guys I could stomach throwing out around $30-$40 for food that will last a good 3 to 6 months or maybe longer depending on the size of your tank and how you feed.

Hey T.J. I got all the dry ingredients from kensfish.com. At least you see I wasn't trying to make money when we ended up paying $26 for two 7 oz bags.

If you didn't order your brineshrimpdirect order yet you can save about 30% by going to kens fish.

Let me know when you are doing this and where. I might make the trip out to join in the critter grinding fun.

Yeah the ingredients definitely add up quick... I think we're going to postpone it for a while... possibly until after the holidays until we can organize it a little better... and it will give us some time to set a recipe in stone, and start collecting ingredients.

Also, I would like to try and add some little extras into the mix that specifically target SPS corals... and want to do some research on what is out there.

Thanks for the link... I havent ordered anything yet, and will definitely check it out.
