Diy food questions

Hi fellow reefers..

I tried making diy fish food and my question is will all my fish love and it.. I was earlier feeding them hikari mysis daily morning and evening(small quantities that they would have in 5 minutes) and 2 times nls pellets..
The following are the ingredients I used for the diy food:
Small shrimps 100g
Scalops 40g
Crab meat 40g
Mussels 40g
Squids 40g
3 cloves of garlic
And some nls pellets
And 2 ocean nutrition brown Nori sheets

I thawed them a few times in RO water and then cut them into small pieces ad blended them.. I have a yellow tank, two purple fire goby, a lubbocks fairy wrasse, a carpenter's flasher wrasse and a cleaner wrasse..

I have the following few questions:

1) is the food I put together better than the one I was feeding before in terns of phosphates and fish health

2) is the food good for all the fishes I have currently

3) after blending I put a small blob in the tank...The problem is it stayed until the wrasses just went mad to get a chunk of this food.. Have I probably blended them too much[emoji45]

Sorry for a long post and a probably a bunch of silly questions.. Please feel free to give any other suggestions on the idea of diy food or my recipe.. And help will be greatly appreciated guys!!!! Thanks in advance!!

1. I'm not sure what you were feeding before but that looks like a good mix. I would go with a higher shrimp content in your next batch; shrimp seem to give the mix a better consistency.
2. Yes the food is good for all your fish but your tang is going to need more kelp and algae than what your food provides so you will need to supplement its diet with some nori or other greens.
3. I agree less blending will help but also a higher percentage of shrimp.

Thanks a lot thegrun.. Surely next batch I will probably use 150 or 170g of shrimps rather than 100.. With the current batch, which would be the best way to feed the fishes.. Should I thaw the food in which case I am afraid it might just become some murky water I ll be putting in the tank.. Or should I just break a piece of frozen food and throw it in the tank..

Definitely leave out the garlic and pellets. Any terrestrial plant should not be fed to marine fish. Garlic is just a marketing gimmick. You should add some clams or oysters into that mix. The whole idea of making your own food is to not feed them pellets. Pellets contain flour and/or cornstarch, along with other ingredients that should not be fed to fish.

This is my fav recipe, you can change it around for what is available to you. http://www.melevsreef.com/node/1616

I agree no garlic, it's bad for the liver. Mostly I shoot for a good mix of fleshy animals like shrimp, and animals that have a lot of organs like clams. I think the stomachs contents of the clams are nutritious if they come from clean water. I think it's easiest to make a meaty food and then add nori separate for the herbivores. You can clip a sheet in the tank for them to pick at between feedings.

Blending each ingredient separately and then mixing them makes it easier to get a good size of chunks, and I find if they are still a little frozen the firmness makes them get chopped up instead of having some parts totally liquified and some still big chunks.

Thanks laga77 and CStrickland.. OK for the next batch I will avoid the garlic.. Also really like the idea of blending them seperately and while they are still a bit frozen... Will also look at melev's recipe.. Clams were not available currently else I had intended to mix them as well.. Surely going into the mix.. I also supplement the feeding with Nori sheets on a clip.. Will continue with that.. Thanks again guys for your inputs..!!
