DIY JBJ led 12 chiller question

I currently have the aquarium setup and running. JBJ 12dx. I am going to be doing a 72 gallon or colder tank. I modded hood and installed 20 leds for color and high par while removing a major heat source from tank. After 8 hours of running the leds average 78degrees. as opposed to stock 95 degrees. AWESOME! helping eliminate potential heat adders and enhance tank appeal! I purchased my jbj 1/15 chiller. I now ask you the pros and experienced nano'ers what you recommend. The 12g has limited space in overflow areas. DO I remove stock pump and power chiller and return back to tank with upgraded pump? or DO I install 2 pumps which might be a pain in the bottom? I know 2 pumps would be what I would do on my 450gallon+ system but there is a 75gallon sump for real estate.

last question. If I go with 2 pumps what pump gives 150-250gph with small footprint that you guys recommend?

Hey guy. I am new here and see you are frustrated. I also have a JBJ Nano. Although mine is an older model that I believe was advertised as a 14 gallon. I also converted to LED to get the temperatures down in the tank but still run to high for some of the corals I have to be healthy. I watched a video on youtube where someone installed this chiller on a 29 gallon cube. They used a separate pump to flow the chiller. In a case like ours I would use a single pump to flow the chiller. Find the flow rating needed for the chiller and compare to the flow rating of the stock pump. Use a pump that meets the higher flow rate needed plus consideration for the head (linear vertical measurement of the maximum height a specific pump can deliver a liquid to the pump outlet). That is what I am going to do when I can afford the chiller. Sorry nobody with experience answered. Best of luck.

I also have no experience (I have a 29g biocube, that sits at 74 degrees with no heater) but I know from my cube that I wouldn't fit another pump unless it was where my refuge is in the back currently. I have seen several cubes like yours and mine drilled and a sump added to them (a local club member has a 14g drilled). It's a possibility, anyway.

I would choose a maxi jet 900 or 1100 and use as a dry run pump sitting next to the chiller unit. This eliminates a pump from the tank and adds no more vibration to the tank. Or another solution is to run only one pump for filtation and utilize the other pump spot for the chiller circulation. You can acheive wave action from powerheads.

Thanks for replies guys. The end result was a maxijet 1200 as only pump. After noticing its way to strong for a dwarf sea horse I figures the best solution would be to add phosban150 to return to slow down and add filtration externally!. Ill dial that in Tuesday when it gets here. So far though tank is 72 and leds look nice. Still waiting on dimmer but I'm happy.
