DIY large reflector

A while back I decided that using the 4-400w MH's in LA-III reflectors was just way too expensive when it came to replacing the bulbs twice a year (Radiums/HQI ballast), so I decided to go with 1-1000w Radium in the standard size LA-III reflector to save money on bulbs and electricity. The only problem was I couldn't raise the reflector high enough to get the spread I needed over my 4'X4' cube tank, so I decided I needed to build a large reflector. I bought the reflector material from Salty Critter, who stocks 4'X8' sheets. The next step was recruiting my friend George, who actually designed the reflector in a CAD program. We cut the pieces using a jig saw and bent the angles we needed on his brothers 8' sheet metal break. It's nice to have connections:D
The reflector is 34"X34" and only 9" tall. We used a 4'X4' piece of reflector material which worked out perfect.
Here are some pics of it, which don't show how bright this thing really is.

It's too soon to judge right now, but the tank is definitely bright, although not as much as the 4-400's around the corners. I have a friends light meter, so I'll take some measurements around the tank to let you know how it performs.

You mean after I "copied" :) your old lighting on rail idea you switched things up on me!! You're cruel!!:D

Just kidding. I'll be standing by waiting for the outcome of the lighting par numbers! Awesome job on the reflector!!

Sorry Tom, I'll make sure to send you the updated blueprints:lol:
No before and after shots yet. I'm using a 1000w Radium 20k bulb with a Hydrofarm powerhouse 1000w MH ballast.
