DIY LED Lighting

I am thinking about trying to DIY and LED lighting unit.

I have been looking around for high power led's. I was looking at these Luxeon k2 LEDs. How many would I need to run to light my 65g tank in order to keep sps corals. I would probably have to mix the 6500K bulbs and the blue LED's.

By the way, the Luxeon is the same led as used in the pfo solaris

Some new flash light have a 3watt led these days.... very bright. I don't know what k they are though.

Keep me posted I think led lighting is going to be the way to go in the near future.

There is a very long and good thread here somewhere on DIY LED lighting either here or in the DIY forum. Look at the lumens per watt rating of the Luxions though. Not very good compared to conventional lighting.

These bulbs consist of 7 3W led's. It wouuld make wiring alot easier.

It says you have to buy a minumum of 50 though... That is a lot of LEDS!

those look to be much easier but could you pick which color LED's you put in there? thats my concern. also i think having this on one tank would be more trouble then it's worth. maybe a nano or frag tank but on a 65 might be alot harder then you think.

Consider also that not all LEDs are the same. In the previous thread I mentioned, the guy had problems with his LEDs loosing intensity and burning out very quickly. It turned out to be poor quality el cheepo LEDs.

Yes Im also starting to consider it. Might make a shallow frag tank and test it over that.
