DIY lighting

I am going to build a canopy for my tank this winter and am planning on making some of the DIY reflectors that there has been some posts about in the DIY forum. I plan on using 2 x 250 watt for my tank (75 gal). First off I was thinking of using SE mogul sockets as what I have heard is they put out more light than DE. So, where do you buy the sockets? Is it something i can get at Salty? And what kind of ballasts do you guys use, and can I also get them at places like Salty? I will probably then use some T5 actinic. This will be my first DIY lighting project, I have used commercially made light fixtures before this.

I am going through the same thing but with a 90gal(same dimentions, I think) What kind of canopy do you have?
