DIY...magnet holder for powerhead?

Has anyone done this instead of paying $25 on some websites? I was thinking of maybe gluing them some how to a mag-float instead. Do you guys think it'll hold a maxi-jet 1200 while it's running? If so, what type of glue would you recommend, super glue gel or maybe some type of silicone that would be safe? Would the magnet affect the powerhead?

Parts....

Mag-float -----or is there somewhere I could find a strong enough magnet for cheap?

Glue---------Silicon or super glue? If silicon, what type would be safe to use? What do you guys recommend.

Thanks,

A mag float would probably hold a 1200

A mag float would probably hold a 1200

but there may be other problems using a mag float long term in salt water.

I know other brands make it a point that their mag cleaners can be left in the water. Mag float does not make this claim. This leads me to believe that a mag float will rust if left in the water long term.

check out this: http://www.aquariumcleaner.com/

They won't rust but I think they cost a lot more than $25.

If you end up trying it with your mag float why not use a zip tie
to hold it? That way if it doesn't work you just cut the zip ties no harm done. I'll bring some by tomorrow when I pick up the sox tickets. They're about a foot long and super strong. Something to try at least.

Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm...interesting. That's something I definetly have to look into. I was thinking of gluing the slide in bracket to the mag float so I could always change the powerhead if something goes wrong.

I would be able to cut the silicone off with a blade but I don't think I'd be able to get in there close enough to cut off the super glue. If I decided to break it apart and save the mag-float.

Went to magfloat website and they do make the claim that it could be left in the tank at all times.

I have a mag float attached with super glue, to a Seio 1500 as a mount.
It works fine.

Which mag-float did you use? I was wondering if the mag-float 30 would be strong enough to hold the powerhead while it's running. I know it'll hold it in my 10 gallon tank because the glass is 1/8" thick and using a maxi-jet 400. But my 45 gallon is thicker 1/4" and using maxi-jet 1200.

Mag-float 30 would only run me $8 at petsmart with the internet price match:D . Beats $25 +shipping if it works:smokin: .

BTW, I have an extra "used" Magfloat 350 that you can have if you want to pick it up.

That would be great, I won't be able to pick up till after I get back from my florida vacation. I'm leaving this saturday and will be back on the 17th. Is it ok for me to contact you then?
