DIY MaxiJet Stream (Pic Intense)

how are you going to keep the shaft from drilling into the body? as the prop pushes water out, it's also pushing the shaft into the body as it spins. people have tried these powerhead-stream mods may times before and they all fail early on from this problem.

The shaft itself should not be spinning. The magnet and propeller should be spinning freely of the shaft.

yeah, i guess that makes sense (brain-fart on my part). but then it's the base of the magnet that gets pushed down into the body. dunno, never did it but i've followed at least a dozen of these threads over the years and they all ended the same way. where the force of the impeller being pushed into the body makes them die a very early death. i remember one of them had an excellent description of the problem from roger vitko.

Thanks for the info, I will definetly keep it in mind should this thing start to fail.

Just wanted to let eveyone know I got my SS in last night so I will hopefully get to work on my mod some this evening, If not this evening, sometime this weekend.

Less time writing and more time working.....
:) Jusk kidding, I am just anxious to see your mod.
Everything before looked great.

Sorry I have not been able to get to the board this weekend. I have spent my entire weekend at the Hospital as my Grandfather is not doing very well. His lung collapsed at 2:00am on Saturday morning and given he only has one lung, it is not a good thing. Not to mention he just got out on friday from having a Stint put into his asophagus from where the cancer that they thought they got all of when they took out the other lung decided to show up in his asophagus and was starting to close off his airway. The paramedics bent the stint when they shoved the tube down to get him air so now they have to fix that as well. There has been complication after complication so as you can imagine, I have not worked on the mod this weekend.

I will probably not get to it till this next weekend or maybe later. But I will keep everyone updated.

All prayers are welcomed for him as I know God hears them. His answer may not always be what we expect, but we should always ask for his will to be done above our own. Thanks and God bless.

Im not sure why it hasent been brought up, but 316SS will corrode in SW over time as well. All SS corrodes. The least expensive metal that is totally resistant to SW is titanium.

Is there any update on this project?

I made 1 but it does not turn the right direction all the time but the flow is unbelievable (really strong)
Is there any way that you can make the Maxi Jet turns the right direction every time it turns on???
I read on the other thread (19 pages)
http://reefcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=253928&highlight=maxi+jet

Somebody made a stop which make it turns the right direction every time it turns on, If you read this please post a picture of how you did it.

TIA

you just need to cut the rigid tubing, or whatever your using that the prop is attached to about 1 inch shorter then the stainless steel shaft. When the prop spins the wrong way, assuming towards the powerhead, the prop assembly will slide up the shaft, pulling the magnet out of the PH housing a little thus stoping the spin, and then it will slide back into the PH housing and try spin again, will keep on doing this untill it goes the correct way. Usually very quick, because its a 50/50 chance of spinning either way, so maybe it will slide out 3 times, but it happens kinda fast, so you wont even notice it.

I am back.

First off, I would like to thank all those who prayed for my grandfather. They did not go unanswered. There were several occasions the Dr's and Nurses told us he would not make it through the night, and here we are 3 weeks later and he is doing much beter. He is off the ventolator and slowly gaining his strength back. He is still in ICU so he is not out of the woods yet, but I am thankful God has given us alittle extra time with him. Thank you and God bless you all.

Now, as for the Mod. I was able to work on it this week, and I am happy to say I have what I think to be a finished product. I am currently at work and will try to post pictures tonight. Do not do the slide method that was just stated untill you see what I have done. I think you will be happy with my design. I also used 316 Stainless Steel this time. I will give all the specs tonight..
