DIY MaxiJet Stream (Pic Intense)

ya i was going to make the holes bigger today.

Justin- there was a centering brace but i took it off when i was trying to manually center it to see if th was the problem. it was just a slim piece of acrylic.

SUCCESS!!!!

alright i fixed it. i guess i just needed bigger holes. but i made the centering guide different this time. that might be helping too. well thanks everyone! im gonna go put it in my tank now
:)

nice thread and looks like a perfect DIY project: cheap, very effective, but is it easy to do? I want to do it myself, but trying to figure exactly how by reading these threads has proven to be confusing (for me anyway).

Couldnt something swim or crawl into the propellr and die?

Now... I've had a thought running through my head since I first read this back in the summer...

How cool would it be, to add a nozzle/dual gimble to the end of this conversion. Add 2 cheap RC servos (and a control circuit - there are a few DIY designs already that will repeatedly run a servo through its Range of motion). The result would be some impressive random flow through the tank - especially on a wave timer...

Time to sit down with some pipe and figure out the double gimble...

well i made one about 4 mo ago...and when i tested it, i didnt know if i trusted it im my main tank so put it in water and let it run...well 2 mo later i got to trust it a bit more...so i put it in...and wow...works like a 4 dollar hooker....lol...i cant tell you how great it works...i used a 1200...and i have a 80gal...my tank is sps....and i need the flow...i may just make one more...thank you Bulldzr....people like you make this hobby so great....rich

what size seio though

Tim

At least it feels like the modded MJ is pushing a lot more water than the SEIO 620, 820, and maybe even the 1100. I made my first one using a MJ 1200 and it was too strong for my tank and I had to downgrade to a MJ400.

It's been five months since BullDZR originally posted the mod. For those of you who did it too, how is it holding up?

Joleen

Been couple months at least for me and mine are still working as strong as ever.

I did the mod on one of my MJ900 this weekend. i did it kinda half A just to see if it would work and not ruin a good MJ.
I'm haveing a little trouble balanceing the thing out but it seams to be going ok.
When you have you MJ on is the flow strait out of the end of the pipe, or does it come out at weird angles 45deg down from the Stream. I guess what im trying say is with this mod. does the flow make it all the way over to the otherside of your tank?

Depends on the version of the MJ's and the size of your tank I would think. I did the first one on MJ1200 and yes the flow was visible from end to end of my 55g tank. Now I run 2 MJ 400's from both ends of the tank pointing against each other creating very nice turbulenece.

Oh... And the flow on mine does not come out in weird angle, it is straight forward albeit very wide and dispursed.

Do you have a photo of your mod, I might be able to tell you waht's wrong with it as to why your flow is coming out like that.
