If you cut the pipe off too closely to the brace fitting it doesn't have time to reform a stream before it exits the housing. Any braces will deflect some of the stream at odd angles

Nope.

Needs to be at least 316 Stainless Steel.

Other options, in order of increasing chemical/saltwater resistance:

Nitronic 50 Stainless Steel
Type 20 Stainless Steel
(both of the above will be incredibly difficult to find, hence the 316 recommendation)

and, the best option:

Titanium[/COLOR=red]

3/32" Ti Rod is difficult to find. It's normally only available in 1/8" increments. If you can find 14AWG, you'll be incredibly close... Ti Welding rod comes to mind.


But, 316 Stainless Steel should last 12 months in a saltwater tank without difficulty.

Actually the best IMHO would be ceramic rod, yes you can buy them. Yes, I agree ahead of time, there is a risk of breakage, but never a risk of corroding or possible reactions.

Even better option is carbon fiber rod IMO. Cheaper, no risk of breakage, no corrosion nor adverse reaction.

i got mine from my local hobby store. any hobby store should have it. but i dont think you'll find it in 3/32'' the measurement wil be .098" or 2.5 mm. pm me if you cant find any i have some extra from my mod.

I too am looking at Tower Hobbies for the correct tubing, and seem to only find brass or Al. Any leads as to where to find rigid poly or acrylic tubing?

You can use the poly washers if you want I personally used the moly washers as a thrust bearing on the internal end of the MJ The tubing called for is just your regular airline. My Shaft material is 308 SS welding rod. Try out one of the local welders/shops get ya a rod for a dollar.

I don't use washers. Don't see any need for them.

I have noticed several people stated that they have tried this mod on a MJ 1200... While some have claimed limited success, others have claimed that the 600 was out performing the 1200. I am looking to do this mod for a 6ft 135 gal tank and if there is good success on the 1200, would this be too much for the 135? As for those who have had success with the 1200's, what additional mods did you do over the 600's to make them work?

The tubing in the part list picture does not look like airline tubing. Airline tubing comes in 5/16 and 1/4 sizes?

i will try to post pictures tonight. i think that i may be disturbing the stream out the end of the pipe with the crossbar so that may play a part in it, and i may need bigger intake holes to allow maximum water to enter. and do i need the cross bar to be towards the outer side of the pipe or as close to the MJ as possible?
