DIY MaxiJet Stream (Pic Intense)

has anyone figured out a good way to mount these in your tank?

Easy. You can use the hook mount that came with the MJ pumps. Just glue it to the back of the pump (which was the top part of the pump prior to modding). The hook will fit over your tank with a bit of trying assuming you don't have euro brace of course.

That's what I do to mine.

I have no idea what happened... I took it apart, and one of the blades was completely sheared off. I can only assume that it was because it could be a cheap plastic prop.

Regardless, I glued in a replacment last night and it is back up and running.

I now have baby clownfish larve to tend to these next few days / weeks, so my Aqua Clears will have to hold on until I can get some time for them.. I will let ya know if I can get them to work successfully.

:fish1::hammer:

first off i need someone to give me a step by step guide to posting pictures since i have read how to here and still for the life of me can't figure it out.

What i mean when i say sometimes it doesn't work is that the prob will come out farther then it should. just past the peace to get it to reverse spin and become uncentered and just sit there. i know this is worthless without pictures, and i think i have it figured out and will have to try something when. i just wanted to see if anyone has been going through the same problem i have.

Uncentered??? Are you not using a center brace to hold the rod and impeller magnet in place? How would it get off centered at all?

How long is the length of the PVC housing? Maybe it's too long.

i do have a center bracket but it seams to shake just enough on shut down to cause the magnet to not start up again next time. this is my third try and it's getting better. it will run on my wave maker for a few hours then i will check and it wont be spinning.
the PVC housing is just a 1.25" coupling so not to long.

The center brace should not be moving at all as it should be glued in or on to the PVC housing. Getting a shake on shutdown means you're not securing the center brace or the whole PVC housing properly hence why it is getting off centered.

When the magnet doesn't start it's because it is off centered and probably rubbing against the sides of the pump.

How are you securing the PVC housing onto the pump itself?
Aren't you using the PVC test cap to do that?

BTW... It WOULD definitely ehlp with some photos.

You can access your own gallery from the link above your postings and upload the images that way.

i was using a test cap to secure the PVC to the pump but the test cap wasn't a perfect fit so i notched the coupling so i could put it directly to the pump. the center bracket is glued to the PVC.
the way i get the pump started is to puch the prop all the way back into the pump and usually it kicks a few times then starts, keep in mind that it only comes out maybe a quarter inch probably less though.

are any of yours working without a stopper in the brace? i had planned to put one in mine but somehow forgot somewhere along the process. i tested it in my tank and it works everytime i plug it in. every other time it does start to spin the wrong way but it somehow restarts itself without a stopper....so i figured if it aint broke dont fix it. have all of yours needed a stopper...maybe mines just a freak...

the prop is more than likely hitting the brace and correcting it's self. i dont have a stopper in mine either, it just hits the brace when it starts in the wrong direction.

Well I would just like to thank everyone who contributed to this thread and the one before it. As you have all said, this project is effective, cheap, and simple - therefore confirming my DIY handicapedness! My project was a big waste of time, money, and powerhead. There goes that idea. I couldnt get it to work, and when I finally did after hours of tinkering, the flow sucked and it was horribly loud. Maybe my problem all along was that the magnet hits up against the side of the plastic casing, but my shaft is perfectly staight. I dont know, and right now Im so tired of it I dont care. Sorry to be so negative, but I just wanted to post this for those who dont have much DIY skills. They say its simple, but either you have to be somewhat good at DIY projects, or this project cant be done by an idiot. :) heh, oh well.

For those that couldn't find the test cap like myself; just get a slip fitting for the 1.5; I then took a dremel and hacked up the edges.

I've also notice (so far) that if impellor turns the wrong way.. just flip the power plug around; and it it will turn the right direction :)
