DIY Rimless Starphire and Stainless Kiddy Pool (PICS!)

People read opinions, and soon they are taken as fact.

Be careful what you consider fact with regard to the SOLARIS or other LED lighting systems. Much of what is posted above is a very skewed perspective of the technology and its benefits vs its baggage.

However, this is certainly not the thread for the discussion, there are plenty of LED threads here for that.

Yes, but maybe Luke will build a completely counter-culture LED inspired lamp using fly eyeballs, corona discharge, and a straw hat pendent. :eek2:

lmfao id love to see that. another question about your lighting system. i have a solaris so im not going to get into that but where did you get the idea to use mh lights as antinics? iv never thought about that. also it appears you have alot of blue t5s. could you tell us your bulb combo

I gotta say that that is one awesome tank. Great build quality, and I love the VFD plans - maybe my tank for that one!

Very nice work Luke. Very nice.

I'm using a 1/2 hp March brand 3-phase pump and a Siemens VFD. The March pump has a magnetic coupling and reminds me of an Iwaki 100, just bigger. The Siemens VFD has a 230 volt single-phase input, which is close enough to the 240 volts I have. With a repeat cycle timing relay (and a few hours reading the VFD manual), it now ramps up and ramps down smoothly on whatever time interval I choose. The big tank it will be used on isn't a reality yet.

Luke, thanks for the great idea.

March pumps are great. I have an ancient little March mag drive pump and its still going.

Luke, Any updates on this tank? I thought I saw another thread for your tank....but I can't seem to find it again.

very interesting tank project....but can you post more pics of the 510... hehe... to bad you went f20c... should have gone s15 sr20 and kept it in the family... but not a bad motor. i myself am into cars aswell i have a s13 project.

Luke, since your 1/3 HP motor isn't being used up to its full potential, I thought I'd ask what size motor would you opt for if you had the option of having one custom made for the application? Would 1/6 or 1/4 HP fit the bill?

I'm giving serious thought to a VFD setup for an ASA 75/90, and I'd like to know what size motor you think would be suitable if one were considering a custom wind.

thanks.

Luke,

good to see your new tank. I miss the posts on RF, but after all the blowups over there I understand your absence. This is very impressive. I need to go back through and reread this thing to really get a full appreciate and avoid asking questions that have already been asked and answered. Love the inginuity on the pump...something that is dearly needed in this hobby. Most of us wait for a company to put something new out and complain about the cost....you have created something for the companies to try to keep up with....keep it coming. Love it!
