Lets see...

Portland Cement ... EASY
Crushed Coral ... No idea where to find
Crushed Shells ... No idea where to find
Sand ... easy enough... lack of truck makes more difficult

shovels and hoe, got that
mixing box ... need
misc mold boxes ... bring your own?

beer, not a problem.

I bought the sand in bags and cement at HD.
I bought 300 lbs of aragonite from FAOIS.
I bought crushed shells from Aquarium Creations.

Why aragonite for the rock... it is going to be bonded in the cement... wouldn't silica work just fine? Or the course sand they use to make cement, also found at Home Depot?

Shells at aquarium creations...Argonite from FAOIS... no wonder you have the most expensive DIY rock in town :P

I want to do this on the cheap :)

ahhh...

I think I will have enough Aragonite, some nice guy dropped about 320 pounds of it in my garage a few weeks back.

whit that, I will use silica :P That should drop my price per pound a bit...

Now to get crushed shells...I hear there are some somewhere to the south... Maybe I can arrange a delivery at the next club meeting :)

I have on the porch now.
Half of a bag of Portland cement...... might not be any good it was opened.

200lbs of shell
100lbs of crushed coral
200lbs of Aragonite sand

Fish boxes, buckets egg cartons, pastry trays for forms.

Big plastic motor box for mixing.

Shovels big and small for scooping.

The hoe is on the block and owes me money.

Sorry no beer .......damn I gotta go to the store!

Me... I want enough to make 150 pounds of rock.

Who else is going to come up and make rock?

How much do you wish to make?

Should we make this a Learn to make rock, every one can make 2 10lb rocks, take what they learn home and make as much as they want?

Or do we do a lets make a ton of rock day?

Yea, I want to build some withthe rock salt too... I would like to have have some of each... see what works best and all.

I made them with:
Portland type I & II cement from Home Depot
Diamond Crystal Pellets (salt) Home Depot
Paver sand and Pea gravel from Lowes
The ratio is 1 part cement, 2 parts paver sand, 2 parts pea gravel and 1 part rock salt.

They are very porous. Water runs right through them!

adnup- how are they strengthwise? Are they solid enough to be base rock? I like the porous idea for life, but I wonder how strong they are to supposrt other rock. What do you think since you have some??

I made these back droops several months a go.

The easter egg plugs fit in the cupped out holes and the flat disc plugs fit in the others so I can grow frags on the walls.

Greg, have to finished setting up the tank in the picture above? That is a different style and I want to see what it looks like with fish and corals.
