DIY Rock

yea, i saw that and it looks cool. Did you see the person that made a replica of their tank and built their rocks accordingly?

I did something like that 4 years ago and still use it. I wanted to have an open look in my 90 without it looking empty so I made a rock using a pallate made of MDF and built the rock on that. It has a perfectly flat back and bottom so it fits up against the back of the tank:

Do you have a pic of it in the tank..

Like the shape of it, and great Idea about making it flat to set againt the glass!

That looks cool Kent! Any pics of it in the tank?

Howard, if you choose to do this I'll be quite interested to see how it turns out, and also if it takes an eternity to fully cure or if it leeches phosphates. Keep us updated!

From what I was able to find out, it takes anywhere from a couple to about six weeks to cure. THe problem doesn't seem to be with leaching phosphates as much as it is a super high PH.

I am thinking that maybe Kentrob could give me some pointers on that now! I could make rock while he mods my impeller!

Somewhere on here a guy made his own rock and used rock salt mixed with cement to create holes when it dissolved as opposed to other things. If I remember right it worked out good and was very light.

i was at kents house last night and saw his rock he made. You would never notice it if he did not point it out. looks just like real live rock.

back when I made mine I put it in the rock curing vat at SWC (no longer in business) and left it there for about 2 months. I'd like to take a crack at ceramic rock one day......

Hey all, I live in the St Louis metro area. I have a 120 gal that is 99.9 % DIY rock. It's about 14 months old. My home page has a few pictures. They are older, I build this setup to try my hand at SPS, things were going real well until AEFW, sustained a ton of damage, think I finally got them on the last treatment a little over a month ago. Not sure which LFS I picked them up at. Nothing great to look at but the cash outlay was right.

I've heard that before and also a complaint about the music.. Been meaning to update some of the pictures and turn it off. Haven't gotten around to it yet...
