DIY Rocks

<a href=showthread.php?s=&postid=11512278#post11512278 target=_blank>Originally posted</a> by jasonh
What I'd like to do with my rocks is make them there and let them dry for a few days then pick them up and take em home if that's cool. I have a big bin I'll be using, plus some buckets I think. I need a couple big pieces as well.

Thats sound good to me.

Man the time has come we need to know the location the time and finnally the "bring list" for both the rock and the food. If you'd be so kind to do that. I can also make some cup cakes for the meeting ...... MANLY CUP CAKES !!!! or a cake just let me know what kind.
Thanks for doing this man I've always wondered how this is done.

is it ok to make these rocks out of fine grade sand instead of the more course sand?

You should be ok. Course sand would be better for use in the mix I think, but fine sand would practically disappear into the rock if you use it for molding purposes. Larger sand for molds tends to look like a bunch of sand glued to a rock :)

I will start a new thread on attendance and what everyone is bringing and this thread will be the discussion thread.

I want to attend but do not know what to bring. Please let me know what I should bring so I don't feel guilty.

Well if you ended up not bringing anything dont feel guilty :)

But I think we still need some more oyster shells and chips and tubs.

You can find oyster shells at The Stock Shop I think it's on like 67th Ave & Thunderbird

And we could always use more rock salt. Brown bag Morton's at HD

Can we make use of 5 gallon buckets ??? if so before I leave work today I can grab like 3-4 of them for free if we need them.

I got the gloves covered I'll get them at work tonight 1 box of large vinyl gloves work ok ???

heck yes I want manly cupcakes :)

5g buckets work well. can mix in them, and mold in them.

vinyl gloves should work just dandy.

OK I scored 4/five gallon bucket and 2/four gallon buckets and a box of large vinyl gloves
Thats great!

We also scored a 180g tub from a local reefer to use for curing. Thanks JZ

How did they turn out???

Ok here is the mixture we used 2p perlite....2p oyster shell......2p sand........2p white potland this gave a nice oatmeal look to it. Here is a pic before the cement was added
