DIY stand build... A few questions.

I've built several stands using only 3/4" plywood.
The latest one shown here for a 125 gallon

Here is one I built holding a 180 gallon acrylic tank.

The thing is if you build it correctly you don't need a 2x4 frame. I believe most of the stands I've seen on RC are simply over built. Many will say its better over build than not to. Id take a well built plywood stand over anything built wit 2x4's it just gives you a much nicer interior cabinet space.

I am a cabinet builder by trade- trust me- 3/4" plywood is more than enough for any tank stand if built correctly. Use a better quality AC or cabinet grade ply. Use Gorilla Glue and pocket screws. Use whole pieces on the front, back and sides- cut all necessary holes out of the pieces- do not use individual pieces around the openings. Build the stand so that the rim of the tank sits on the edge of the ply.

these look spectacular! How can I get that trim? Especially the way you capped the trim off?

also, what kind of paint did you use? I was thinking of staining my red oak to somewhat match my floors but I'm afraid that wont work out so well and is more difficult than simply doing a white paint job like this one... which I think is perfect.

I recently built a stand for a fellow reefer for his 24" tank. I used mostly 3/4" plywood as frame and also 2x2 as the screw strips. The 3/4" plywood were all pocket jointed. TiteBond wood glue was used as well. Here are some pictures of the plan and the actual build. The stand is rock solid.

What type of plywood do you use exactly? Also, what was the cost to make this?
