DIY starfire rimless glass aquarium

I was thinking about building my own starfire rimless glass aquarium. I know where to buy the glass and how to do the siliconing, but had a few questions first.
- Can I build a 6ft x 2ft x 18in rimless (just wondering if its possible because all the rimless tanks seem to be cubes)
- How thick should the glass be (starfire for the front and sides and regular)
- What kind of silicone should I use?

Uh, your questions kind of hint that this will be a first build for you. Is that true? You can surely do a rimless tank, it just depends on what thickness glass you use. My 5'x2'x2' rimless tank has 3/4" glass. You want to use aquarium safe silicone. I may search out something aquarium specific for the volume you're building, but a lot of folks have good luck with the GE Silicone I for windows and doors (something without mildew/mold inhibitors).

there is a calculator on the GARF site that will tell you how thick of glass you should use..

i wouldnt trust ge1 to hold together a tank this big...go with DOW 995

The GARF calulater is for braced tanks.

my bad....

at the very least i think i would be looking at 3/4" glass then...just for piece of mind...i think a 6' by 18" panel of 1/2" glass would have an unacceptable level of bowing, though it may hold water..
