DIY wiring

I am wanting to add 2 new recepticals to my fish room. Each box having 4 plugs. I am basicly going to run a new wire from the existing plug to the new boxes. But my problem is how do i conect the 2 plugs together in the same box?

If this does not make sence to anyone im sorry. I know what im thinking but its hard to type it out.

Run them in Parallel, the white wires run to the neutral screws on one, then the neutral screws on the other, same thing with the black to the Hot side , and Run your grounds the same way to your ground screws. you Might also want to make your 1st outlet a CGFI for safety's sake

The 4 plug receptacle is called a "Quad". Best way to wire it would be to run a "pigtail"...basically you are wirenutting two wires to each feed and hooking each wire up to it's respective terminal. You can daisy chain them but if one recep goes bad it takes out the others downstream and it's a P.I.T.A. to troubleshoot.
If you use this method it would be easiest to install a GFCI breaker instead of 4 GFCI receps...cheaper too. And make sure you aren't exceeding the ampacity of the circuit breaker by adding these extra receps.

From your post, I gather that your knowledge is VERY limited when it comes to electricity. Your best bet is to:

1) get a basic wiring book from the local home depot (or canadian tire or whatever you guys have up there).
2) find a friend who understands a bit more than you do.

I am not trying to make you feel bad, we all have to learn someplace. However getting advice (albiet good) from a website surely does not qualify you to add outlets to a branch circuit. You not only need to understand how to do this safely, you need to do it correctly so you do not put yourself or your family in danger. Novice electricians do very scary things if they are not SHOWN the right way :)

Well thanks all. and thanks for your concern BeanAnimal
I totaly understand I want to do it the right and proper way first I have done the pigtail method and my close friend who is a contractor had a look at it before i conected it to the main power and he says it looks great. I knew what I wanted in my head but did not know the safest way . And I think the pigtail is what i had in mind

Thanks again for everyones input.

now its time to start building my coral prop tank.

BTW... I hope ypu did not use the "stab in" connectors on the back of the recepticles and instead used the screw termines (making sure the wire wraps ALL THE WAY around the screw, in the proper direction).

The stab-ins should be outlawed, they do not make a good connection and are they cause of a LOT of fires and malfunctioning circuits.

Make sure you dont overload existing circiuit by adding the extra quad outlets. Just do a load analysis of your current/amperage.

no, i wraped it all the way around. i do not trust the stab in way. and for over loading i have made sure that will never happen. and my small fish room has its own breaker
