Do Bi-Color Blennies Jump?

I have decided for my second fish I will be getting a Bi-Color Blenny, I'm going to name him Muddy Mudskipper. I am planning on keeping a peaceful reef tank so I think he will do well in my tank. My first fish is a Ocellaris clownfish.

One question I have is will he go carpet surfing? I have a topless tank and read somewhere that some Blennies like to jump. I thought he was more of a bottom feeder but I want to make sure he won't go diving out of the tank.

Will he be ok if I don't have a top or should I look for a different second fish. If he is a jumper any other Blennies that are a little less acrobatic? Thanks!

Alot of the time, it's hit or miss with any fish wheater or not they will go carpet surfing. Some are known jumpers, like the firefish, nortorious for jumping. But I'm not too sure about the blennies. I never had a problem with one, but I nnow people that have. Personally, I would try it if it was a fish you really wanted to keep, but I take chances like that, others may not want to risk the fish or money if he may jump out. Your call

Quick question along this topic...

Do jumping fish jump with aim, or do they jump randomly when they're startled? Reason I ask is that I have a 1/2"-3/4" gap between my hanging hood and my tank rim. Will the fish jump with the intent of going through that gap? Otherwise I would assume that they would probably bounce off the rim of the hood and fall back in.

it as a defence machanism so will be random but it does not mean you wont lose a fish that way.

Bi-color blennies are not bottom dwellers. They swim/hop from rock to rock and live in holes. I would def. beware of one jumping out, as I think with their body shape and swim habits it would be easy for them to do. I have glass lids on my tank.
