Do clams feed at night?

As the title says. I was about to add phyto to my tank but the lights are out and they would be skimmed out anyways if they didn't feed at night.

Clams get their food from light, that is why such strong light is needed in a clam tank. If you want to feed them, do it in the day when they are extended.

i imagine they are still filter feeding at night. my clams don't close up all the way at night and the excurrent siphon is still sticking out of the shell.

hmmm, maybe they feed more because of the lack of light?

can i get a clam using a jbj light 96w x 2 on a 60gal tank? what do you feed them?

you will get better response if you post your own thread as this is off topic.

they slowly filter the water all the time. they use there gills to breath and to eat, so what ever particles are in the water that passe's over there gills is filtered out. if they want/need to eat at that time and whatever they caught appeals to them then they will eat it. day or night doesn't really matter

Clam respiration rates during photosynthesis are higher than during night no light periods. Thus, filtration rates will also differ.

Feed them during the day while the respiration rate is higher.
