do dwarf angels nip at soft and lps corals

short answer, yes.

They may not always though, I have a dwarf angel in with everything from softies through sps, and I have no nipping for a year+

I've got a Lamarcki in my reef, and they're supposed to be one of the more reef-safe ones, and she nips at all my wellsos constantly.

I had a lemon peel for 1 week in my display and nipped at my LPS nonstop... He got exiled and deported back to the LFS within 7-days... I loved the color and personality but also love my LPS.

I have had various dwarf angels in reef set ups, because they are really good looking species, so it has been worth taking the risk for me

my experiences have been mixed

I had a model coral beauty, that never touched any corals
yet in a set up some time later, the coral beauty I added, seemed to sample everything

I had a potter angel in s softy dominated reef that was a model citizen

flame angel - tried a couple, no luck for me

Funny because I have a flame in my display now, that is a great tank mate... I guess it's the luck of the draw with these angels...

my lemarck has been with me and doesnt give me any problems.

Everyone else has been telling me the same thing, but apparently mine never got the memo. In a 400g reef too, so getting it out is basically never going to happen unless I tear the tank apart...

I'm a huge fan of angels and I always have one in my tank. It's just as everyone says above sometimes they do and sometimes they don't. Currently I have a Potters and Coral Beauty in my tank and they are model citizens. One key is to keep them well fed. Most of them need to eat twice a day. Out of all of the dwarf angels mentioned above my worst experience was with the limericks. It killed two brain corals and went after most of my lps. I personally have never owned a flame angel but a lot say they almost always go after zoas. Bellies angels were one of my favorites but they are usually hard to find. Of the common ones the coral beauty has been the best citizen in the past.

Every fish is different. Some will & some won't...it's just the luck of the draw. Keep them well fed & you'll have better chances for them to leave corals alone.

Like the others have said, it's not so much of a species issue as it is an individual fish issue.

My personal experience is with a Coral Beauty that completely ignores softies and mushrooms, takes an occasional nip at LPS but not enough to do any damage, but will destroy any SPS frag that I put in the tank. However, your results may be different.

I suppose that enough of them are well behaved enough that they as a group don't get the "Not Reef Safe" label but there will always be the chance that any given fish will be a problem for you.

Like many others I've had one a dwarf angel that tried to destroy all of my Lps corals, it took me a week to finally catch him. Never again in a reef!
