after a long battle with my fish sick, what we believe was fin rot, my fish seems to be doing better after medicine and water changes. My question is that my goby lost some of it fins, are they able to grow them back? his fins looks much better but i hope he can grow them back.

thanks,
d

Before I started using RO/DI water, my clowns got really bad looking. They got these white cottony growths over them in some places and fins started to rot away. After using the RO/DI they're on the mend. It's been several months and they are slowly growing their fins and tails back. I imagine within another 6 months they'll look as good as new.

However, one of my clowns is a Black Oscellaris and where the cottony growths were he has a dull orange splotch and he has a dull orange on his tail where it's slowly growing back. It's darkening up slowly, but who knows if it'll be as dark as the rest of his body.

But it looksl ike they grow back over time. Can't tell you if they'll always look a little different though.

They will.
This sounds terrible, but if you have a fish whose fins have healed folded and therefore impaired, you can use a single hard press of a new razor against a board to amputate the folded portion and make the fin re-heal properly.
in once severed or eroded fins there may be a small ripple where the old growth starts, but nothing unsightly.
Only if the injury extends into the peduncle (fleshy base of the fin) is the fin apt to be permanently lost, and the fish is very likely then to die.

Should grow back nicely. I always use a bit of selcon when feeding if I see somebody got a bit beat up. I think it helps.
