Do Fish Sleep?

Hey everyone,

I have a 10g AIO setup, and I just got a False Percula Clown fish around a week ago. The flow in my tank is pretty strong, and it seems like the clown is constantly having to swim against the current and never gets a second of rest. My question is, do fish need to have a place where they can stop swimming for a while so they can "sleep," or will my clown fish continue to be ok? I've researched if fish sleep or not on google and apparently they do, but I do not see how mine can be actually sleeping with the flow in my tank. Anyone else have similar situation? Should I get a weaker powerhead? Any thoughts are appreciated!!

Yes, they sleep.

If your current is so strong that the clown is constantly struggling to keep up, then its too much, You can actually cause them to die of exhaustion. You may want to reduce your flow, or at least play with the direction it goes to provide some 'rest' spots.

My clownfish died of exhaustion because of too much flow. The yellowtail damsel wouldn't let it come to the bottom-half of the tank and he had no where to rest/sleep.

He was fighting flow/height in the tank every night.

You can tell clowns are sleeping by the way they start to swim rhythmically.

yeah they def. do, almost all of my fish sleep in my LR i have no problem with lack of space since i have about #250 LR, in a 135, the only fish that dont hide, are my black saddle back which sleeps in the anemone, the chromis, which all pile up by the seam of the tank IMO, and my false perc, he just gets really close to the sand and slowly swims, i think its acctually quite beautiful to see, lower down by the LR not a nearly as much flow is down there/
