So I bought this established 125gal. tank with a nice selection of fish. The guy I bought it from has had it up and running for 11 years. The Pajima Cardinals are the biggest I have ever seen. How can I tell if it is a breeding pair? What dfferences in appearance from male and female? What kind of things can I look out for when they are ready to spawn? I haveattached a cuple of pics that his friend snapped of he tank before bought it a couple weeks ago.

Certainly no way to tell from your photos.

PJ cardinals. If they are a breeding pair and if they actually breeding (if you just moved the tank then it's pretty likely they'll take a break) then eventually one of their jaws will get very square, it will refuse food, and it will eventually start doing a weird spit out/inhale thing with the eggs in its mouth. At that point, you will know that you have a breeding pair and you will know which one is the male.
