Do I have aptasia (pic)?

Just noticed this by my polyps. Is it aptasia? Best remedy, lemon juice via syringe? Or should I just dip the rock in revive?

Nope... if your talking about the thing in the middle, I think it is just a dead polyp. Aptasia looks dark brown or clear with long tentacles.

agreed. Doesn't look anything like the aptasia that I had. If your really concerned about it try taking it out with some forceps maybe? If its dead, you'll get it. If not.. well I guess you won't.. ;)

Well it just moved rather quickly (it retracted for some reason). The head doesn't hide, it just shrunk back a little. It doesn't look like a dead polyp, the tentacles look pretty freaking menacing. The base is purplish, but the head is for sure alive.

vetdog: I wish it looked that nice! The tentacles on the side look more like needles than just fingers.

Pretty sure this isn't manjano, the tips are quite skinny, and the face is still a yellowish brown like in the picture. It's moved away from the polyps and is now on top of the rock, the legs are slightly longer. I'd say it's entire size is around a half of a centimeter. Fairly concerned it's aptasia. Everyone is sure it isn't? It came on a rock from Drs. Foster & Smith.

Maybe a rock Anem? search that and see what you think

+1 on this. Most likely a rock anemoen. I have a couple that hitchhiked in on some LR and thought they were aptasia at first. Had the LFS I got the rock from show me online and in a book an exact picture of the anemone. Very cool creatures, but some get pretty big(6" across).

One Aptasia is not a big deal, take your time. Go to Wal-Mart and buy some pickling lime, same thing as kalk, make a paste and use a syringe. Place the paste on top of the Aptasia, this will burn it out. Do not cut or pull Aptasia, this will cause it to spread.
Good luck! Jim
