Do i have to use live sand?

Hi im gonna be setting up a FOWLR 24g aquapod and i would like to use black sand as my substrate. i was thinking of using 3M color quartz sand or tropic isle tahitian moon sand. now my question is do i have to use sand that buffers the water or can i use either of the sands i choose?

You can use reg sand and seed it with live sand. Eventually it will be all LS.

No one's going to hold a gun to your head. Live sand is a wise choice, especially if it comes from a successfull(sp?) and healthy tank. Good luck.

The sand can also be seeded by the live rock that you put in your tank.
