I'm a noobie here and would like to know what is a sump and if I need to have one for a 24g tank?

A sump is bascily a way to filter your system and hide all equpment. Like skimmer and heaters.
You can also have a fuge in the sump which is an area for Lr and algae to grow.
Here is a pic of mine, very crammed, but im upgrading soon.

it would never hurt, it adds more water so it is more stable, natural filtration.
but it is optional, i know people who keep small tanks with out them, but once you start getting into 75s and higher almost everyone has them

I will say yes but that my opinion. The solution for polution is dilition and ins this type of tank there is not dilution enough.

Im gonna star a nano, maybe a 24g but for now im gonna use the 10g hex that I have. Im gonna have a 10g sump for the skimmer and the heater and a 20g long tank for a fuge. I know all this is bigger than the display tank but I rather have extra dilution than pulution, and it will be a SPS 10g tank . This is just my 2 cents

i hope theres a cover on that fuge with the AC 120 volt 15 amp circuit feeding your lamp hanging on by a temporary clamp.
