Do I need to cure 2+year dry former live rock?

I took down my last reef tank almost three years ago as I couldn't keep up with a big tank and a 2yr old. All the former live rock is now very dry and white and my son wants to setup a 29gal cube.

My original plan was to simply mix up some ro/di and rinse off the rock, to get any dead stuff or crusted salt off that I could, and then put it in the cube and allow the rot to start the cycle rather than do a full cure.

Is there any real reason to do a full cure of the former live rock, rather than just give them a quick cleaning since it's a fresh tank with no live animals and will need a cycle anyways?

no need to cure it AND cycle.... the reason to cure it is prevent it from decaying to much ammonia into an established tank. The cycling will cure it. :)

would get the worst rinsed off though
