So after my red slime issues i have ripped out all the sand and replaced it, took any sound and funk out of my sump refug, only have live rock and chaeto and cleaned all the rock. Before when i battling the nitrate and slime issues i was running carbon and gfo in a dual BRS reactor. Do i need to continue to run these or should i just back down to just running some carbon, do the test and see where my nitrates and Phosphates are?

Any phosphate readings. I would base my decision on the that.
This.
GFO should be used as needed to lower phosphates. Cyano can have numerous causes and GFO can be one way to help alleviate it. Then again, just because you removed your sand there is no guarantee that your troubles are over, depending on what caused the issue in the first place. Regardless, you should be running GFO based on your phosphate readings, otherwise you're just using it as a reaction once a problem has already presented itself.

Understood. I am going to run test today for Phosphates and see where i am at. My Nitrates are at 50 and i am going to do 20% water changes on the next couple days to see where its at and if it rises quickly again or if i have got rid of the base issue.
