Do i see a trend on here with LED sales?

I've got a pair for sale, only because I have a spare pair lol. Once you go led you won't go back, at least I won't. Fully controllable/dimmable, best on power and great coral growth what more could I ask for!?!?!?

Agree with mlivvy. The current round of new fixtures is going to result in a cascade of sell offs.

100% true

Wayyyy too many models coming out

People wanna upgrade to newest one

I like the idea of the hybrid led/t5 fixtures. You get the best of both worlds. I guess what I'm wondering is how much increase in growth you can get with t5? Has anyone done any experiments or measured tests?

Too many variables to do measurements. From personal experience, the LEDs that I had had too many variables for someone like myself. Lots of customization when I really needed just a few settings. Radions were a little too complicated for me to maximize because of being a n00b.

Now, I think the primary reason people get good growth with T5s is just because of coverage. People that know what they're doing with them usually get enough so coverage is good and they have less shadowing. Common sense says, less shadowing = more coral coverage = better growth.

I currently run an LED/T5 Hybrid and I'm very happy with my results. The only thing I would consider is moving more towards all t5s.

But don't let that fool you. I wouldn't follow my steps and plenty of people here have success with only LEDs.

Well said Frank. We saw the "coverage" scenario this morning on my sons 40 breeder when we tried a 4 bulb T5 fixture in place of his LED fixture just to see how it looked. It was quite shocking to see how the light "spread". Don't get me wrong, I see that LED is having success and there is no comparing how corals look under LED, but we are leaning towards T5 with LED supplementation for Aidan's 40 breeder.

LEDs are deceptively "dim". So tanks with T5 and halide appear to have way more light but led may pack more of a punch which gets lots of people in trouble. I had good growth with led only and good growth when I added T5. I have an insane amount o light over my tank. The best my tank has ever looked was when it was led only which leads me to believe water chemistry is more important. I will admit that t5 does much better pulling reds and pinks. Leds to great pulling greens and blues. Just my 2....

Sounds like, at the end of the day, Led's may not be much savings when you have to add so many units, and I suppose that electrical consumption may also be up there

And that's without the added cost of upgrading to the never ending greatest and latest generation.

LEDs are probably far enough along that current generation products wouldn't need to be replaced as long as you purchase quality the first time.

Gen4 Radions are very pricey but with the claims of coverage, less hot spots, and better spectrum... you would only WANT to get something newer. I don't think performances will improve that much aside from better understanding corals "needs".

"WANTS" always = more money.
