I need to know will inverts carry diseases as ich and others diseases?
I read Reefkeeping and others but did not say anything about this.
If so how do you treat them to kill off of them?
I have ich in the main tank I remove the fish to QT.
I need to do a HYPO on main tank and remove inverts.
I do not want to carry it back to the main tank.
Is there a QT for inverts?

Hey fishtk75,

I had just asked the same thing yesterday about quarantining a new crab and conch when I finally came this particular article by Steven Pro about the need to quarantine everything.

I've already had to treat my 8 year old tank once for Ich - never again! My new crab and conch can continue to hang out in my Q-tank for another 3-5 weeks.

I read that and that is why I said that because it did not say if they can be carriers too.
Thanks cryptodendrum I and doing everything no more it will not happen to me will heres Johnny.

Anything wet can carry ich although ich only feeds off of fish. You must QT all new inverts, live rock, corals to ensure that if any ich was carried in the water or on the item that the ich will die in QT and that the fish won't die in your main display.

PERFORM HYPOSALINITY ON THE QT TANK. This means to drop the salinity in the QT tank to 1.009 for at least 4-6 weeks. This will kill the ich on the fish and any ich that will be in the QT tank. Meanwhile, the ich in the main tank will die with no fish to feed off of BUT you must leave the main tank fishless for AT LEAST 4-6 weeks and even longer if you want to be absolutely sure there is no ich remaining. You can even leave the fish in HYPO for the same period. Make sure you use a refractometer to measure the salinity in the QT. A swing are hydrometer may not be calibrated and could potentially cause the death of the fish in QT if it is off by a few hundredths. The only thing you need in the QT tank is a few pieces of PVC for the fish to hide in, a heater, air driven sponge filter and maybe a very small powerhead for circulation. USE QT ON ANYTHING WET IN THE FUTURE YOU INTEND TO PUT IN YOUR MAIN DISPLAY. You could possibly bring home ich that is hanging out in the water that your new arrival is in with a coral or an invert or even some live rock. Practice the above info I have given you TO THE T and you will never have ich in your main tank again. GUARANTEED.

You do not want to do hypo on inverts or corals. They will die in hypo. Leave them in the main display and the ich will die in the main with no fish to feed on.

Freed thanks for your help,
Yes I have two refractometer other for backup , one month after I first started first salt tank I saw plastic swing one was not working all the time.
I found out the swing it was giving me a bad reading when I started using one.
Yes I am working on HYPO QT now so you know no more changes with new stock.

What do you do I see you said to put in the main tank the inverts it will die off the ich.
But after you did that time in the main tank you do not want to put new inverts in the cycled main tank and contaminate all over again.

Would you all have to have a second QT for inverts only also?

You don't need two QT tanks. One is all you need. If you add anything to the inhabitants that you have already in your QT then you have to start the clock all over again before you add them into your main tank. If you have fish in their now your best bet is to wait until they have run their course in the QT and add them to the main display before you buy any new inverts or corals. It sucks if you see something you really want right now knowing that you can't buy it unless you want to start the timer all over again if you still have days or weeks to go with the critters you already have in your QT tank.

I needed to know because of HYPO the QT that I have now for the fish that as you said it will kill the inverts.
Thats why I asked about having one QT only for inverts and corals.
So I do not need a QT for new inverts?

You do need to QT new inverts but you don't have to hypo them, so you obviously can't keep them with fish in QT if you need to hypo the fish if they have ich. If the inverts are in QT for at least 4-6 weeks by themselves, any ich that may have been carried in with them in the water will die in that period. Hypo will kill inverts and corals. That includes any inverts on live rock as well. If you want to set up a separate QT for inverts that's up to you if you already have fish in hypo or want to keep fish apart from inverts in QT.

I asked because if you have fish in HYPO one tank and someone wanted to give you or you saw coral,or invert you wanted to buy you can not get it you suck with one tank.
If you setup a tank for coral and invert how would you set it up?
