Do LED's look harsh to anyone else?

I've started with a 250 watt mh PFO HQI ballast with se Radium bulb and 2 x 75 watt VHO actinic, to a ATI T5 6 x 24 watt fixture and now have a gen 1 Radion and I wish I had started with the Radion. I love the color, the look of the fixture and the programming.
With my Radion, I can change to just about any color and intensity for any kind of coral in a few seconds with my computer.

One thing you have to remember, beauty is in the eye of the beholder. ( I hope I got that right)

Another thing that's awesome about those fixtures like the radions (esp. the newer) is it can give the tank just about every kind of look throughout the day. That's alot of fun IMO. Corals and fish can just by cycled through such a variety of beautiful looks.

When I first made the switch from my t5's to my AI Vega's, I hated them! Totally different light! But now that I'm used to them, I couldn't be happier! The colors are just amazing!! Corals and fish look so good! Never seen those colors before!!

Same here. When I switched to my acan I was not impressed. But after a little while the lights really started to grow on me. After about a month I started to see the color change in all my coral, specially the sps.

I have a few different rainbow acans that look just as good under the leds as they did under the t5's, but one. Not sure what's going on but the color changed from red to green. I'm not sure if its because of the lights or if it was a color morph. I'll have to post up a couple pictures and see what you all think.

My LED's make my aquarium POP and such great growth with low energy output. My electric bill is lower :frog:

No offense to the op - but vs t5's a few things I like about true reef led's

with the right degree optics the light spread is amazing - lights each corner of the tank. (need a lot of bulbs for a 6ft tank)
No changing bulbs every 9 months
ocean type look - if you dive you know what i mean :-)

Opposite of the OP here too. To me, full-spectrum LEDs are by far the best looking lights. And the "underwater" look and shadowing actually seems more natural to my eyes.

No offense taken. I mean, it's a light, lol.

I've never dived (doven?), but I've seen pictures and I tend to like shallower depths with more land lubber colors, not super blue. Kind of seems like most led's focus their energy on the blue.

I just saw some nice videos of radions though, and I have to say it didn't look too bad.

I've had my razors up for two days and I miss the look and feel of the MH...LEDs look cartoonish, just not natural. I just hope the tank does well with them.

i like the look of led lighting, imo it is almost as good as MH and better than T5. however, i have had very little success with sps color. most of my sps's pale, stn from the base, or die under leds. which i rarely, if ever, had happen with MH.

I think many problems people experience when switching to leds are due to the change, not the light itself. Burnt tips are obvious, but bleaching, color loss or STN might have another cause. I strongly suspect that in lower nutrient systems the - most of the time - higher PAR leads to shortages in nutrients/trace elements etc. I can't prove it ofc...

I am only just now in the process of setting up my first tank with an led fixture (tank is dry but the fixture is already hanging) and am very curious what I'll experience.
