Do protein skimmer skim out phytoplankton?

I want to stop the bowl with my clam and just pour DT directly into the tank. Will the skimmer skim this out (DT), and if so how fast?

It will take a LOT of DTs in a tank (too much...will foul the water) to meet the needs of a baby clam. Ou should really bowl feed or use a feeding bell until about 3 inches.

Not really a baby clam and no disrespect or anything peabody, but that didn't answer anything.:)
Still looking for a answer.

I believe it would. Many products say in the instructions to turn off the skimmer for so many hours during/after adding it. I would assume the same goes for DT's.

Just trying to help.....your question addressed bowl feeding and adding DTs intoi a tank to feed clams...thought I would address those :)

Bowl feeding, as you mentioned, is for baby clams (under 3"). If you wished to meet the needs of one through tank dosing, it would take too much, regardless of skimming or not skimming :)

yep the skimmer will take out the phyto.......so when you feed the tank Dts which is a good idea for larger clams, pods, and some smaller clams apprieciate it, but like peabody stated its a great idea to target feed those expensive little guys with the bowl technique.........so shut the skimmer down feed the tank a small amont of Dt's then take the oppertunity to clean the skimmer, I feed my tank twice a week with DT's small amounts.......and I target feed my baby max twice a week on different days than i feed the tank....
