Do singularia drop buds?

I have recently had a strange occurrence with my singularia. I discovered a narrow brown band on one of the branches. It looked to me like dinos had wrapped around the stalk. I blew off the brown stuff a couple of times but it kept returning. Finally I amputated the bud below the "ring",treated with iodine and returned the coral to the tank. All seemed OK for a few days. Today I found two more narrow bands around
different sections of the same softie. When I blew the encircling gunk away the cut looked as clean as a razor. Is this normal (some type of natural division ), or is my softie under attack? I've had this coral for two years without incident. The rest of the tank looks good and nothing going has been added for months. Does anyone know what's going on?

That brown stuff sounds like brown jelly disease. The treatment for it is exactly what you did. Frag off the bad and dip in iodine.

If I were you I'd pull the coral out and do dips in iodine. Here is a link that might be of some help for you. Also can you post a picture of the brown and the rings you say? Brown jelly eats the flesh and again it sounds like you have it on that coral.

Thanks so much for your advice. The iodine definitely helps. I'm not sure if it makes a difference but I also dripped RO water on the affected areas for a few minutes after the iodine dip. I am amazed at the nature of the attack. The lesion looks exactly as though a razor was used, almost like one would expect to see from a partially complete fragging. No general rotting or meandering, just a single hair thick brown circle which reveals the damage when I use a turkey baster. Very strange

Yes you are describing exactly what corals look like that have brown jelly and its rinsed off of the coral. Bad stuff and very hard to get rid of. I wish you luck.
