Do they make tanks to stack?

inachu

In Memoriam
I am sure a tank could be built to support the weight of another one on top but would it be worth it?

Just being creative with my ideas.

how would you feed the tank underneath? unless there was some kind of space in between...im sure it would look neat though
you might have to custom build it

Someone here has a tank that sits on the sump (or the other way around). He had to basically drain the tank and move it to get to the other. Sounds like too much work to me.

I've seen smaller fresh water tanks stacked like that. Occasional LFS displays go on sale in my area too.

Given the size of salt tanks, I'd say get some steel I-beams and a welding kit. And, don't forget to strengthen the floor to support the weight. But, why not?

whats the point? i just cant see why it would be a good idea at all inachu, totally pointless

I guess if the person is very proud of their DIY sump technology they invested in.

look im not being silly or trying to be horrible to you, you have asked aquestion on RC and as a member ive made a statement, right or wrong its a opinion, perhaps i should clarify my response, if the dt is sat on the tank underneath, there would be no possible way to get to the tank underneath would there, there would be no access at all, the water would go stale and how would you fit a light, also how would you do any mainenance/ just my thoughts inachu, no offence intended my friend, if im missing something please let me know

Oh I agree with you. no argument there.

its just since this current setup is my landlords fish tank and I am exploring ALL options for my very own fish tank to do as I please.

Right now she wants 9 clowns. Bingo! shes got it!

But also mechanics wise... The tank does not have to be 100% over each other just as long as there is guaranteed support for the floor, cabinet, tank.

Even if I am able to weld to have the tank be a 90 degree angle of the tank below.... Would be an engineering feat for me to do that!

The way i see it is that Tanks are not just pets but a life time hobby so I am willing to drop as much cash to get it as I want.

But when you post something as an alert then thats cool.
Since I work in IT I liked to be proven wrong. How else am I to learn?

Thanks!

How would you maintenance the pumps? God forbid the power go out for any extended amount of time....

Does not have to be directly sitting on top of each other but that was my first idea. Bunk Bed fish tanks?

I highly doubt they make tanks like this. Not only is it not practical as others have said, but there is nothing to support the weight of the tank besides the glass beneath it. I highly doubt it can hold 100+ lbs.

They sell reptile enclosures that can stack with sliding doors for the front if your intention is to use this for something other then fish?

You can also buy stands that have shelves you can put fish tanks on. I have one now that has 3 shelves for 10 gallon fish tanks that has about 6" of clearance between each tank.

Your just talking about the normal tank/sump setup inachu.

Most often it's one tank located beneath the other. Not rocket science, you just put one tank in the bottom portion of a stand. If you want it to be viewable, buy a metal stand.

They make metal stands that hold 2 tanks on top of one another. They are great for q-tank setups since you can fit twice the tank in the same floorspace.

well no i dont think so tswifty, if you read the first post inachu mention the bottom tank being able to take the weight of the top tank, like you i thought about the sump underneath but read the whole thread again, im now totally confused:confused:

My old QT tank:

Shot of it when it was a FOWLR a few hours before I transfered everything to the new 90g:

Tore down, and put away in the garage... but you can see how the stand works:

I got the idea of one tank supporting the weight of another as this one LFS owner who is vastly (OVERWEIGHT)
stood on the 180 gallon tank that was on the ground to get to another tank to get some fiji rock out for me.

I was alarmed at first but if it can take his weight then by golly! I got an idea!

That still makes zero sense inachu. If you set one tank on another, as others stated how will you get into it... not to mention that would be way worse than glass tops for oxygen exchange... eh... I wonder why I even reply to your threads sometimes :rolleye1:

*I think they make an iron stand that can hold 2 55g tanks one above the other... A LFS near where I used to live used them in their back room for their QT setups.*
