Do water changes affect calcium etc...

its possible, but only if your tanks calc level is higher than the new water. i have found the best way to keep your calcium levels right on is with a 2 part buffer. i make my own, or you can by something like B-ionic 2 part. what is your current levels? what is your other parameters?

For the most part any high quality brand of salt is going to have the right amount of calcium. You do to suppliment your alk/ca some how other than water changes. B-Ionic two part is a good choice and so is dripping kalkwasser to maintain levels.
